- Ears aren't perpendicular to the head; more 3/4 (possibly less) on the sides
- Females noses are ok with less detail; male noses should be more detailed
- Studying human body muscles is a good idea... I'll have to look for more references for that.
- The rib cage in the mannequin structure I've been using? Should be like a hollow egg/oval shape (front view)
- Should try the heads count structure for heights (7 = super tall, 5 = petite )
- Google SketchUp for landscaping/modeling/etc and it's FREE :D
- Always remember that humans have a brow bone...
- Females don't have as much (if any) of a chin protrusion as males
- 3/4 view isn't as bad as it seems
- Perspective views! Caution; if it looks realistic, always check the point of reference / in relation to another object. (Chest level of front subject in relation to eye level of back object, etc)

A trip to the bookstore results in useful references!
