Posemaniacs.com

http://www.posemaniacs.com/

Plenty of poses to use as references and they include the muscles !

The friend who showed me this site also showed me that the "images" are really flash which means you can rotate them!!

I'm dearly in love with this blog!

A trip to the bookstore results in useful references!

Found some really useful tips from a few art technique books I read while at Barnes & Noble.

  • Ears aren't perpendicular to the head; more 3/4 (possibly less) on the sides

  • Females noses are ok with less detail; male noses should be more detailed

  • Studying human body muscles is a good idea... I'll have to look for more references for that.

  • The rib cage in the mannequin structure I've been using? Should be like a hollow egg/oval shape (front view)

  • Should try the heads count structure for heights (7 = super tall, 5 = petite )

  • Google SketchUp for landscaping/modeling/etc and it's FREE :D

  • Always remember that humans have a brow bone...

  • Females don't have as much (if any) of a chin protrusion as males

  • 3/4 view isn't as bad as it seems

  • Perspective views! Caution; if it looks realistic, always check the point of reference / in relation to another object. (Chest level of front subject in relation to eye level of back object, etc)

League of Legends fan art - Caitlyn & Cassiopeia - wild west style part1

references for next fan art project:

Caitlyn

Cassiopeia

/edit Basic sketch so far; I didn't put too much into it; especially Cassi. I'm going to go back to this again when I have time.

And... apparently Corel Painter  the .jpeg... even though it says it already existed. At least there's the _bak riff file.

League of Legends comic - What if ..Carries Literally Carried theirTeam?

Image

League of Legends belongs to Riot Games

References used:

VayneMaokai , Annie , Shen , Lee Sin

I was playing with a friend when I had the sudden What If moment when he mentioned the fact that Vayne carried our team to victory. (What if carries literally carried their team?)

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet #2 part 3 (final )

Image

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima

Fan art (sketch, coloring, shading) was done by me

Sword pose was thought of by friends; feet stance was from a reference.

Took about 3-4 hours I believe for this; I was a little more lazy with erasing the colors that got outside the outline.

deviantart Link

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet #2 part 2

I realized my link to the reference image I'll be using for this fan art might be too far down on my blog, so I'm re-linking them in this post. I'll be also using this reference image for the lower part of her pants and this reference for her earring

Around an hour and a half to finish finalizing.

Decided to make this stance better by changing her feet and leg posture.

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet #2

Image

I asked a few friends (who are also fans of Fairy Tail) on ideas for a pose (before I had figured out one on my own). A friend suggested an X-shape pose with the swords (one in front, one in back). This is a rough sketch for how it might look like.

I'll continue finalizing this after I play one game of League of Legends. (Hopefully, I only need to play 1 game for a win.)

"If anything my food's in danger" -comic

Image

(Kinda rushed this - emotions from Korra still running ...that and my stomach is growling @_@;;; ) .. and I forgot to add in which direction to read; RIGHT TO LEFT!!!!

So, my brother manages to grab the small fly that was flying around during dinner. But it didn't die; so when he released it to drop onto the table, it "jumped" and flew up (and towards my direction).
Ironically, a few moments after I said my dinner would be the more likely "danger zone"...I found it...stuck in the sauce .

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet part 5

Image

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima.

Fan art (sketch, outline, pose, coloring, shading) was done by me.

The sword was the hardest part of the whole fan art; I actually changed it in the middle of coloring the sword.  (If you see my sketches, you'll notice it's different.)

Around 6 hours spent on this fan art.

deviantART link

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet part 4

Image

Took about an hour to draw in the clothes; hate to readjust her chest piece a few times to make it look more like an armor.

Just realizing now that I forgot to draw in the guild mark.

Thunderstorm

2012, June 22  6:12 PM

Power jumped twice back to back due to the thunderstorm in the area. I'm going to hold off continuing the sketch until the storm dies down more.

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet part 3

It turns out I had to a serious amount of editing in this layer; altered the body (stomach region) length as well as leg and arm widths.

Image

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet part 2

Image

The sword turned out to the hardest part of the sketch (so far). Getting the right angle is still a bit tough but this will be roughly how it looks I suppose. Next up will be  final outlines and clothes (red outline).

Fairy Tail fan art - Erza Scarlet part 1

I realized my previous reference with Erza didn't have her armor, only the head. I'll be using this as my primary reference.
Right now, I don't know what pose I want Erza to stand in; I don't want to copy any images that have her in a certain pose (fear of copyright). The pose ought to display her personality somehow...but if she's in her basic armor..what pose would you picture her as?

/edit

An idea I just got:

Erza point her sword at an angle towards to the audience, 'think-you-can-take-me-on' sort of stance. The sword angle will probably be the more difficult part of the stance..

/edit #2

Another reference image, but for another pose. It's for a pose a friend suggested. X shape (one behind another) with this armor.

Fairy Tail fan art - Young Lisanna and Natsu, asleep

Second reference ; mostly for clothes

I forgot to mention this in the Happy fan art post, but as usual...

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima , not me. However, fan art (sketch, outline, coloring) was done by me.

Image

Image

The next idea on my list (I skipped Lucy and Natsu, for now?) was Lisanna and Natsu asleep in their child form <3 (Sadly I suck at drawing child proportions..)
I tried using the same coloring method as I did for the Happy fanart, but without the outline layer, it looked rather odd...so I kept the outline layer.

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima
Sketch, outline and coloring in this fan art are done by me.

Fairy Tail fan art - Happy

Had to use a second reference for drawing Happy; first one wasn't helping me get his face shape right.

He still doesn't look right but it's a big improvement from the initial 'too long , tall body, arms and legs and boxy head shape' (which I erased and started over from).

Next on my list of art ideas to start was Happy from Fairy Tail.
I wanted to try a different coloring style mid-way through finishing his sketch. The outcome wasn't that bad actually. (I pretty much didn't bother coloring in the lines or even erasing the excess color outsides the lines. I did however, blend the colors to "get rid" of the excess color. )

Self Sketch - pencil and airbrush

Used a photo taken by a friend during a Spring Semi Formal this year as basic reference; Hard 4H pencil sketch - Blue = basic, red = detailed

Hard 4H pencil. Purple = final outlining and markers.

Soft Pressure Airbrushed rest in.

Fairy Tail fanart - Lucy

Image

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima

This fan art's sketch, outlining, coloring and shading are done by me.

4H Hard pencil for sketching, Wet Oil and Detail Oil Brush with occasional watery blender for colored. Done in Corel Painter 12.
Took about 4 and 1/2 hours to finish since I had to go back and correct things (such as the mouth and outer parts of each section) when I toggled the outline layer off.

Fairy Tail fanart - Natsu part 3 (final)

Image

Fairy Tail belongs to Hiro Mashima.

Sketch, line art and coloring/shading are done by me.

The coloring took about 2 hours, putting this project around 4 hours for completion.

In the case of anyone wondering, the last image had the outline until I was done with all of the coloring, shading and blending. After that, I toggled the outline layer on and off to draw in the finer details (such as the scarf pattern and the chest muscles.)

Fairy Tail fanart - Natsu part 2

Image

Took a 2 hour break from this (for dinner and checking Facebook and emails.)

This roughly took an hour as well.

Fairy Tail fanart - Natsu part 1

Image

Screen shot of progress so far. His hair actually wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be; it was still difficult.

Took about an hour to finish up to this.

next "project" - Fairy Tail fan art: Natsu

Having too many ideas and being indecisive on what idea to start with, I've decided to go down my list in order.

Idea number two: Natsu Dragneel from Fairy Tail in a full body sketch, colored if I have time.
References, which ended up including other Fairy Tail members which is fine since I'm most likely going to draw them after Natsu.
erza face, natsu face body, lucy face body, happy , gray body
happy, lucy, natsu body
young natsu and lisanna with happy egg

my character from "The Secret World" beta weekend #3

Image

"The Secret World" c Funcom

As I mentioned in my previous post, I spent the past weekend playing "The Secret World" beta. This is (roughly) my character from that beta.

On the left is the layers (5 to be exact) of sketching, while on the right is the final outline and shading.

/edit

I decided to color the sketch. However, Word Press is not posting the image into the post correctly, so I'll have to leave the deviantART link instead.

Human anatomy sketch #2

Well, originally I was going to finish this 3 days ago (before Friday noontime) but couldn't. Reason for trying to finish before Friday noon? The Secret World beta weekend. Which is why it's only done now, haha.

Also, this was originally suppose to be a summer themed sketch... but I decided mid-way through drawing it to change it. Not sure what the theme is now... haha.

Mannequin to anatomy to final - steps

Image

After watching a video on drawing out this mannequin system, I worked from there and try to create a character out of it.

"Bugs and Vacuum that doesn't suck" dream - a comic

Outlined and detailed. I could have done more but I didn't want to overdo it as I did with the first panel.

Fingers and toes were a bit annoying to draw. I had to redraw them at least 2-3 times.

Side note - the new skeletal mannequin structure really helps, especially when it's time to draw on the clothes.

"Vacuum not sucking in bugs - dream " Comic - the sketch

Image

After have found some tutorials and videos on drawing, I wanted to try out a new drawing style as well as the initial mannequin skeletal structure process.

This is a dream I had last night after being unable to fall asleep during the 3AM - 6AM range. I blame my dad's radio alarms and my brother yelling about around 5 or 6 AM. For some reason, the theme lately has been bugs...

Next up, outlining and hopefully detailed "inking"

Aries' belt bag still bugs me but it's too late to fix it. (Well.. I could go back and re-draw the whole thing again and then recolor and shade.. but I'd rather not.)

Beginnings of Fairy Tail fan art part 2

Finally finished Leo; took about 3 or 2 1/2 hour  - I can't recall if I started around 12:30 p EST or 1p EST.

His suit (image right) had to be edited mainly because of  human proportions. His shirt collar had to be edited due incorrectness in comparison to the references (the collar was too low and loose in comparison to the correct version: tight and higher up.) His hair also had to be edited (image top left).

Beginnings of Fairy Tail fan art

Image

Sadly...Facebook games are a bit too addicting so I end up multitasking, haha.

So far, I have the basic layout and about to start defining the sketch a lot more.

/edit 10:14pm (around 6 hours later; took 1 hr break for dinner)

Finished defined sketch; now on outlining step.

/edit ~40 minutes later

Outline is done.

Rest of the wallpaper details such as names and "border" will be put in once I start coloring

/edit - ~2 hours later

Virgo and Plue are done. Leo and Aries are up next. Rest of the background is done.

references for next self project

My next "project" will be a Fairy Tail fan art for my friend who got me things from this year's animenext.

I will be drawing Virgo, Leo, Aries and Plue. The reasoning for this is due to a conversation I had with her about Fairy Tail and she mentioned her favorite celestial spirits. My 'general' layout for the wallpaper fan art will be this:

From left to right, Virgo, Leo, Aries. On the bottom but slightly center will be Plue in, sitting on his behind.

Virgo, Leo and Aries will be full/close to full profiles; each in their most well known poses.

The background base color will be black. I'm thinking of having big block lettering on the right (or left, we'll have to see) of each of the 3 characters. I'm thinking of leaving Plue's name out for aesthetic reasons. The colors of the names will be based on hair color. (Originally I was hoping I could do 3 different colors but it worked out better that the two spirits on the ends have the same color while the one in the middle is a different color.) Virgo and Aries - pink while Leo - orange.

Then on the other side, their key if I can fit it. Hopefully I can, otherwise I'll have to stick with just the sign.

Attempt at landscape artwork part 3 (final)

Image

Finally got around to finishing the coloring and details.

Overall I'm happy with the outcome, though I'm still not sure how the waterfall turned out.

/edit

I always forget something - this time, the sketch outline didn't get hidden and I forgot my signature.

revised version - no outline; cleanup on it as well as the addition of my signature.

Attempt at landscape artwork part 2

After I applied the base colors, I decided to detail the trees first.

Here's how it looks so far:

Image

The sky consisted of 4-5 shades of blue and 1 shade of  white. Then using Grainy Blender I let the blend take its own course to form the "clouds". I will be adding sun rays towards the end of this.

The boat base consisted of 4 shades of purple blended together with Grainy Water. The mast, consisted of 2 shades of brown and 2 shades of orange, was also blended with Grainy Water. The sails consisted of a white and 2 shades of light gray, blended with the same brush, and then the " folds" were airbrushed  in with Detail Oils Brush and blended lightly with Grainy Water.

The house consisted of several shades of yellow and brown and underwent 3 blends. The windows were "outlined" with Wet Oil and the window glass had 3 shades of blue applied and 1 shade of white (again, blended with Grainy Water .)

The vine was drawn in with Wet Oil ; letting it bleed a bit, I added in some "leaves" on the vine.

Drawing out my dream/nightmare in comic form

Image

cover page of my comic about the dream/nightmare

Read from RIGHT to LEFT

Image

The dream seemed pretty real because everything was almost accurate in terms of furniture and placement of my grandparents' apartment. Everything (furniture, curtain, placement) drawn here is as accurate as can be. The only things that aren't accurate are the clothing within the dream.

Author's Note (A/N) : I'm not sure what my brother said to me exactly, but "Saving energy" was the closest thing possible. (All I remember is whatever he said made no sense to his actions.)

Image

I don't know if silverfish can jump or not, but having one jump onto me (and onto my shoulder under my clothes) seemed too real to me.
