Scenery - Police storming hideout part 1
Original (as far as I know of consciously ) Scenery
Total time (not including breaks for meals & meeting up with friends) : Almost 3 hours
Used only two brushes, Real 2B for sketch, Detailed Airbrush for coloring.
Sadly, I had a much clearer and more detailed version in my mind but time just wouldn't permit to finish this for classes start (tomorrow...).
Things I would have done / added -
- more glow off of the items closest to the machine with the 3 rings
- metallic appearance off the bars
- better "walls"
- different shades for bricks
These ideas really do come to me randomly, usually when I'm trying to fall asleep. I think I was starting to think about what sort of scenery I could attempt to draw and color to fit the different game genres. Somehow I got this in my mind and it could honestly even work for my fan fiction-soon-own-story-with-no-copyright-issues.

Little birthday gifts
Birthday gift for cousin:
\
She loves rabbits & bunnies and I wanted to try to drawing her plushie she was given/ made.
Birthday gift for friend:
Though I don't know how much he likes (or hates..) Navi, I decided to work around the joke of Navi being so annoying. Literally, Navi is just saying "Hey Listen!" a bunch of times before finally saying "It's your birthday !", haha.
... Realizing now that the second "Birthday" looks like 'Earthday"...

Original Character - Spirit
Original Character - Temporary name; still working on name.
After yesterday's test with watercolors for coloring, I really liked how the appearance turned out and wanted to color another drawing in with watercolors.
For this one though, I ended up using the Soft Pressure Airbrush to add in the "circle/dots" on the water.
All done in Corel Painter 12.
Sketch probably didn't take more than 30mins - 1 hr. The outlining + coloring took about 1 hr and 18 mins. I probably would have taken less with the coloring if I didn't have issues with trying to get a good background. (In the video, you might see me trying out different brushes for the background but all of them left a streak behind the watercolor sadly.)

Original Character - Kicker
Original Character - name isn't really set in stone...(I named the guy when I was in late middle school, which was at least 8 years ago.)
Pose reference from Posemaniacs - one of the fighting poses
I wanted to try coloring in a drawing with solely watercolor, to see how well (or badly...) I'd do with them.
Sketched using 2B pencil, outlined in sharp colored pencil and then colored everything with various watercolor brushes.
All done in Corel Painter 12.
Whole drawing took almost 3 hours.

Original Character - sketch - Blade part 5 (final)
I decided to try recording another drawing - this time a person rather than a landscape/scenery.
Original Character - sketch, coloring - Blade
Character, hover board - colored with airbrush
Background - drawn & colored with watercolor
- I pretty much winged the whole background coloring due to not really knowing what to use for watercolor brushes (you'll see in the video recording).
I actually never set in stone (or at least in my mind) what color his clothes were...
Total time spent (coloring) - a little over 4 hours
Recording
- Found out Adobe After Effects doesn't take videos over 3hrs... Luckily I had Windows Movie Maker.
- I want to try having it playback at 32x the speed but for some reason Windows Live Movie Maker isn't showing the correct images for the recording around 7min 40 sec mark. YET for 64x playback speed, everything is there....but the video ends up being only 3 mins 52 seconds.

Original Character - Portrait - Shadow part 2 (final)
1 hr 30 mins later
Original Character - Portrait - colored - Shadow
The coloring for the hair probably took the longest, if not, then the second longest. I wanted to try getting as much detail into the hair as I could (without driving myself crazy). As for the dress, the shading and evening out of the shading took a decent amount of time as well.
I decided to try out the watercolor brushes for the background, in an attempt to make a less bland version. The Watercolor brushes didn't give the right effect I wanted (and were proving more trouble than worth) so I tried the Digital Watercolor brushes which, after trying a large majority of them, seemed to work. I actually found the Spatter Water brush by accident and ended up using it to give the background a little more uniqueness.
Brushes used:
Coloring on character (excluding the black/gray wisp from hand) - all done with a single brush: Soft Pressure Digital Airbrush
Background - a large number of digital watercolor brushes; The dots were from using the Spatter Water brush (within Digital Watercolor brushes).
Black/gray wisp emitting from hand - Real Tapered Watercolor brush
Total time spent (for coloring) : around 3-4 hours

Original Character - line art/sketch - Shadow
Spent a majority of the past two days looking at Mark Crilley's How to Draw videos and have been applying it to my drawings so far. The eyes particularly are with the tips from his videos. The hair still needs work but I used the tip of knowing where the hair strands are coming out from.
The hand was an application of a different How To Draw video I saw few weeks to about a month ago. Sadly, I still had to re-draw the hand (with my own hand as reference) at least 4-6 times.
Sketched with Real 2B Pencil (Corel Painter 12 ) and outlined with Real Sharp Colored Pencil (Corel Painter 12).

Using sketch from yesterday (see previous post), I used the Digital Soft Pressure Airbrush (from Corel Painter 12) to color this in.
I particularly like how the top area of the hair, before the bangs (...would they still be called bangs for boys?) looks a little more realistic with the 'strands of hair" showing.
I couldn't decide what to draw as a background so I just colored in the background with a mix of light/sky blue + different shades of dark gray.

Sketch Practice 2 - Male face, hair,etc
Original Character - line art/sketch - Ace
Sketched and drawn with [digital[ 2B pencil. Took roughly an hour to sketch, add in the "skeletal" frame, the clothes and outline and finer details.
Never did decide in the end what he was going to be holding in [image ] left hand...

Sketch Practice 1 - female & male face
I was watching (still watching rather....) How to Draw videos by Mark Crilley and decided to apply some of the tips I've seen so far.
This was also a chance for me to find a different sketching brush (as you can see with the brush types I used for this sketch practice.)
Female face on left, Male face on right. Brushes used are written in the sketch. The reason why I used two brushes for the female's face was because I decided to use 2B pencil to draw in the hair rather than the colored pencil.

Scenery - Haven City Street Alley
Original Scenery - Haven City street alley
It took a while to actually get the sketch finalized. Took 5-6+ edits but I ended up with this as my (for now) final version of a street alley in Haven City (fictional location in my fan-fiction-but-soon-not-copyright-version graphic novel/comic).
Little details include the very basic detailing on the sides of the buildings, though I'm not sure they're visible, the manhole cover and the words written on it, the single sewage drain in the alley and the stray beam of sunlight.

Done with only 1 brush, Digital Soft Pressure Brush (Corel Painter 12).
The background was randomly done and mixed for a cloud effect. The same for that blue sphere. The sphere is suppose to represent the wind.

Scenery - Valor Tower Conference Room
Really making things up as I go... especially since I don't have these locations set in detail in my head.
Not sure if I was able to make the reflections on the window apparent or not...or that there were glass windows.
All were done in just digital airbrush ( to be more exact, Corel Painter 12 's soft airbrush).
Video recording of this seems to give me trouble. This time, it won't playback in any of my players when it should considering it's an .avi file.

Landscape - Valor Tower with city scape sketch - part 1
Original scenery artwork
Sketched this out using a digital airbrush (soft pressure in Corel Painter 12).
It's not the "line art" version. Honestly, I hadn't fully finalized the appearance of the tower or the city behind it enough and was "making things up" as I continued this. The original tower I had drawn in my fan fiction/but mostly original graphic novel/comic has a similar layout (if you can tell from the less dark lines around the base of the tower). However the original didn't seem realistic structurally so I wanted to alter it. However, I had forgotten what my new design was thus I was at a loss of what to actually draw.
I might change some of the buildings in the city to add some more variety.

15 min painting - Open Sea/Ocean
Made with deviantART muroI attempted to paint this in a traditional painting style. Messed up and detailed the clouds too early (hadn't drawn the sky yet). I ended up switching brushes later when I realized there was an airbrush related brush in muro.

League of Legends' Nocturne - Birthday gift - part 2 (final)
League of Legends belongs to Riot Games
Drew this for a friend's birthday - though I'm not sure what his favorite champion is....
Decided to draw Nocturne to try to use the phrase "Boo, It's Your Birthday"...but by the time I finished it (1 hr later), putting words on it seemed to be a waste/bad idea, so left out the words.
All done with digital airbrush

Rurouni Kenshin - Happy Birthday gift
Drew with airbrush in a traditional painting method - on top of the previous color.
Also an attempt towards drawing chibi style.
Character Portrait - Heat Blast - part 2
Original Character
All, but the glow on the fire, done with an [digital] airbrush. The glow of the fire was actually done with Corel Painter 12's F-X glow brush.
I think I took about 2 hours to color this in after have sketched out a "line art" version yesterday.
The background was pretty simple and random, mostly because I didn't know what sort of background to give him. I was going to draw him in a city street setting but decided against it and used a more green environment in an attempt to bring out the green of his eyes. (Did that even work?)
I also added a warm "aura" on the face and hair (a layer of red with about....20% opacity?)
Overall, I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, it's a lot better than my previous work (s) with just airbrush.

Character Design - Heat Blast - part 2
Decided to try free-hand drawing out my character's line art instead of building up 3-4 layers (skeletal, flesh out, clothes, final outline/line art).
I think it turned out well, had to shift the line art up a few times due to starting down too low. Next I'll be outlining the line art (final) with a digital airbrush and attempting all the coloring and shading with just one brush - we'll see how that'll turn out. I'll probably end up using two...hopefully not more.

Work in Progress
After looking up videos of people using digital airbrushes, I wanted to give them another try. Blending didn't work out so well, mostly because I was only using one hand for everything. (My other hand is still currently holding onto an ice pack...) Otherwise, I would have tried pulling the colors better.
Also decided to have an actual palette for colors, in its own layer.

I was able to find a good example with this Youtube video.

Character Design - Fire Lily - part 3
Almost 3 hours of playing around with the different air brushes (and blenders that would work with the airbrushes).
Ended up using the same blender I use for oil brushes; it worked out well enough if I didn't apply too much pressure.
In the end, I think I'll stick with oil brushes for coloring people. However, I will use soft airbrushes for shading/shadows. Eventually I'll decide if I want to use solely air brushes for scenery art.
