Painting for my brother's birthday

My brother's birthday was a few days ago so I'm late in terms of posting about it but for his birthday, I decided to paint a painting of him and his camera. It's not super accurate but I worked a little more on structure and clothing folds than I would have in the past (pre- art school).

I haven't posted anything art-wise the past few days since I really didn't have much to write about. Soon, finals will start taking up my time but I think I should still have time to do paintings and comic pages.

Birthday drawing gift for friend

A bunch of my friends (as well as students from our college) went to Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival) in Washington D.C yesterday (4/13).

I went last year but we missed the bloom by a few days. Luckily this year we made it! And my allergies didn't kill me, figuratively. While at the street vendors of the festival, two friends and I visited a Stuffed Sushi stall we saw last year and found new merchandise!! (Such as a Fox Onigiri and a Penguin Onigiri). With those and stuffed mustache, we got the idea of having a mustache pin over the penguin's beak. Thus came this drawing.

Birthday drawing/gift for my brother

It's a few days late since I had to study/review for an exam on his actual birthday but a quick/rushed drawing of my brother for his birthday.

I had to go through several different potential poses before I went with this one. I've been so rusty and out of practice... I couldn't figure out why the coloring process didn't look right; I forgot I would usually do the values first before the color.
Final colors went through color correction and balance before final version.

BBC's Sherlock painting WIP#1,2,3,4

I have not digital painting or even traditionally drawn in such a long time ...or at least that's how it feels like to me.

Picture

It's a work in progress ...sadly. I still need to fix the eyes and skin tone but hopefully I'll have a chance to get this done before Thursday!

9:10 PM EST
After getting a comment/critique over my first WIP image, I redid the sketch for Sherlock. Hopefully the eyes aren't too big and the shoulders are wider and Sherlock doesn't look younger.

10:52 PM EST
Yay the eyes don't look weird anymore! I can't believe I forgot about space between the white of the eyes and the iris+ pupil...I guess this shows how out of practice /how long it's been since I've last drawn.
(This is embarrassing.)
Planning on quickly coloring the clothes and hair. Once I'm satisfied with that, it's good to go for a birthday gift :D

I FINISHED! Now to add text and then give this a friend as a birthday gift when the time comes!

DC Comics-Young Justice- Blue Beetle fan art (Birthday gift)

Jan 11th 2013 12:09 AM EST

I won't be posting this until after the 16th, since this is a birthday present for a friend and my WordPress being linked to Tumblr, which she does check time to time, would ruin the surprise.

I had to go through a few different characters in my head before selecting Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes). I was going to paint the Justice League International, but since I don't know the members that well and Google images was giving me too many different rosters (though there were a few re-occuring members), I then proceeded to look for reference images for Guy Gardner, but I couldn't find a consistent hair style for him, thus leading me to Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) from Young Justice.

After reading yet another tutorial (tips) guide from deviantART, I gathered a few tips on different combinations of opacity and flow for brushes. With those tips, I continued coloring the fan art/birthday gift. I must say, a switch from 30%  opacity (for softness)  and 50% flow to a mix of  30% opacity 50% flow  and 70% opacity and 50% flow really does make differences for coloring. As for sketching I had to increase the flow to around 70-90% flow.

League of Legends - Vi - part 4 (finished)

9:47 pm EST

All coloring layers, in the end, were placed into Soft Light layer mode. I went back and fixed up the base color layer to make things a little more neater and briefly colored rest of the missing parts in a separate layer.

Actually, I will  use the values first then colors after method... I have yet to go into details with the values; it looks like I have to do that after dinner as my stomach is growling.

League of Legends - Vi - part 3 (base colors)

5;54 pm EST

I actually didn't paint in values first before coloring for this piece. I usually would have, since I love that coloring method but I wanted to get more drawings in so to sorta save time, I went directly to coloring.

I roughly outlined my sketch from a few days ago and made a few edits in the lines, such as the raised arm.

I never did end up zooming in, but I didn't want to given the coloring style I went with.

The Pikachu calendar is a gift for a friend of mine, who gave me a Zelda calendar. Let's see if I can successfully make 12 Pikachu themed calendar images !

Finished sketching and doing a rough line art.  The faded lines in the back were the initial sketch, the darker lines being the line art layer.

Birthday card for apartment/suite mate~ Suzumiya Haruhi - part 1

3:02 p EST

I found out late last night (* technically early this morning...1am*) that it was one of my suite/apartment mates' birthday. I know she watched the latest Suzumiya Haruhi movie and enjoyed it so I'll be using Haruhi as a birthday image/card subject.

Birthday gift for friend:

Though I don't know how much he likes (or hates..) Navi, I decided to work around the joke of Navi being so annoying. Literally, Navi is just saying "Hey Listen!" a bunch of times before finally saying "It's your birthday !", haha.

... Realizing now that the second "Birthday" looks like 'Earthday"...

League of Legends' Nocturne - Birthday gift - part 2 (final)

Image

League of Legends belongs to Riot Games

Drew this for a friend's birthday - though I'm not sure what his favorite champion is....
Decided to draw Nocturne to try to use the phrase "Boo, It's Your Birthday"...but by the time I finished it (1 hr later), putting words on it seemed to be a waste/bad idea, so left out the words.

All done with digital airbrush

Also an attempt towards drawing chibi style.
