Housekeeping, can I call it that?

I've made the switch to letting more of followers aware I posted new deviations on dA. Previously, I would copy the shortened link and post it on my Facebook page, but that meant my Twitter had no indication of such. I figured since my Twitter was already linked to my Facebook page , and this blog, it'd make more sense to share it via Twitter. I'm glad there's a small thumbnail shown when it shows up on my Facebook page so people know what I'm posting aside from a link and text.

It's finals week.

Well, technically next week is finals week but this week is the final week to finish the final projects.
After next week, I can finally unstress myself!  I plan on going back to old drawings and redrawing them. Wow, right now there's an odd adrenaline feeling going on. Wonder if it's because I surprisingly finished all 3 paintings earlier than I expected? Or just that I've been watching a lot of
police dramas. I just finished CSI: NY yesterday and just started watched Flashpoint.

In order to not be repeative across my social media sites, I actually won't post the final paintings on blogger. For anyone who wants to see those 3 paintings I mentioned, the most updated site is my Behance profile. My deviantART is probably a month behind in uploading work; I'm trying to spread out the uploads so I'm posting things over several weeks instead of all the work in 1 day.

Links to my behance and dA should be on the top of this blog.

Busy time , working towards final for classes' finals

WIP2 for Digital Media II class' final. I plan on adding more details to the house's interiors and detailing the skulls more.

WIP 3 for Vis Dev 1 class' final.
It was pretty fun playing with the fog. The layout changed again, more so than previous 2 versions in which the manor got pushed back more and the gate further ahead.

Character lineup

WIP... 10? for Inspirational Art for Animation class' final series
I lost track of the character design process. It's WIP 3-4 for the color I think. I corrected the shading so they all follow on the same side. I also changed a few colors along Hook and Tink so they'd get defined a bit more.

Environment - Interior
Color keys

I did a quick value and color keys painting. On the lower left side are inspiration and color palettes that are geared towards the two color keys I did.

Hook's ship (Interior environment) - Updated linework

I realized I had serious perspective issues when I was doing the initial layout line work so I went back and used Painter's perspective feature and corrected all the perspective. The only one that didn't follow the 3 point perspective was the front window of the ship due to its curve.

Hound of Baskerville - "production" painting (WIP)

Past two weeks were composition and value thumbs and color roughs before this week's which, loosely put was the linework, but I went with value & color application based off the critiques so far.
I changed the person's silhouette yet again and added shadows for both the dog and person; I don't know why their shadows eluded me for 2 weeks. Most likely, I got too caught up with the rest of the comp that I forgot about it.

Swamp - Story Climax Shot painting (WIP)

Wow, Blogspot saturated these colors a lot more than the original. I'll definitely be uploading this later on my Behance profile so hopefully it's not as bad there as it is here.

I started with a couple of thumbnails before picking this one and doing a very loose sketch for it. The lines are still visible for the most part because the colors are still rough.
Since our instructor doesn't want us to get too ahead of ourselves, I'm keeping the shading loose.
Working title: "Get off my - land!"

Swamp Characters - value and proportion edits

Mama Herodias (named changed from Mama Batherings to connect it to Great Blue Heron).
She had the most to change in terms of proportions, though I'll have to go back and really check her body proportions; the arms were really short in the first version, about 1/2 - 1 head shorter than they should be.

Phil Drilos' hoodie/coat got arm holes and his lower body got a bit more defined.

Visit to Foreverland - exterior painting, final

As per my instructor's suggestions, I added in the light beams and bubbles onto the painting. The bubbles are simple, just circles with reflective lights from the building and the sea.
I suppose to keep things opposite from each other, my second painting will be focused towards the warmer color palettes and if this painting reads as an night lighting, the interior painting should read as a morning lighting.

Redesign - Hook's ship - Interior Environment layout

The next environment painting we have assigned for the Vis Dev 250 class was an interior setup. Of the earlier thumbs I did earlier in the semester, one of them was the interior of Hook's ship. I played around with different ideas of points of view in terms of from which side of the ship the viewer would look at from.
Chances are the layout will change again since we're just starting to layout our 2nd environment painting.

Drawing out my character (again) from TSW

I can't recall if I've made a post of my character, from Funcom's The Secret World , months ago but I decided it was time to update it and see how much I improved, especially in terms of anatomy.
I used Painter for this since I also wanted to play around with the mirroring feature within Painter. I really had to simplify certain details due to the size limit on the forums for the cabal (guild) I'm in within the game.
Overall, I think I like how it turned out. Surprisingly, or maybe I did this unconsciously, the background looks like a phoenix...or something of the like. Or better yet, it looks almost like my take on a Suzuka from AeriaGames' Shin Megami Tensei Imagine Online, another online game I was part of several years ago, a year before the move to the new company (Atlus I believe) and few years before it finally went down.

Visit to ForeverLand - Rendering towards final part 1

It's time to render out this painting, woo! I made several adjustments from the color key over to the final render/color painting, such as the details on the buildings and the shadow and light cast on the balcony. I'm thinking about putting in textures for the balcony, just to add more detail to it. Tiled maybe, or shells? Tilted might be better since shells might make it too busy.

Production Painting - Environment with story

Five value thumbnails centered around the story, Hound of Baskerville from Sherlock Holmes.

I was pretty happy to find out that Sherlock Holmes stories are royalty free now since I didn't want to do yet another fairy tale based painting, having done one earlier this semester for this class (Little Red Riding Hood) and another (Peter Pan) for another class, but on a larger scale.

Character Design - Hero & Villain with animal influences

Six of the more interesting silhouettes (of each) from 20 silhouette brainstorms (of each).

From those six silhouettes, one of each underwent color and character variations.

Eccentric Elizabethans - edited color (Version 2)

I completely recolored her boots and adjusted the eyelashes and brows, since those were too bright and clashed with the rest of the clothing. I believe I cleaned up and repainted the nose in version 2 as well.

The male's legs were the only change I did for the 2nd version.
